How to convert a CSV file to Excel (and keep codes like 007)
5 November 2026
A CSV file is plain text with values separated by commas. Converting it to .xlsx gives you separate columns and numbers that Excel can add up.
Steps
- Open CSV to Excel and add your file, or paste the text.
- Leave First row is a header ticked if the first row has column names.
- Press Convert to Excel (.xlsx) and open the downloaded file.
Keep codes and long numbers safe
Excel can turn codes such as 007 into 7 and shorten long ID numbers. Tick Keep every cell as text to store everything exactly as written.
Other separators
Files from some regions use semicolons or tabs instead of commas. The tool detects the separator, or you can choose it.
